AJE bursary scheme to support research and teaching innovation now open for applications
An exciting bursary scheme has been launched by the AJE to support innovation in research and teaching.
AJE members can apply for small grants up to £2,000 to develop a project for publication – with applications from those new to HE or early career researchers and university teachers particularly welcome.
It aims to support research and teaching innovation in journalism education and, if an application is successful, the grant should be used by an AJE member (or up to four members working as a team) to cover costs such as data processing, purchasing data or translations of data in pursuit of a research project etc. or costs associated with a proposed innovative teaching project, such as field trips, equipment or specialist technology and pilot events and workshops.
Successful applicants must present the findings / results of the project or discuss / demonstrate its outcomes at either the annual AJE Summer Conference in 2025 or 2026, as well as submit a commentary or research article for the AJE Journal: Journalism Education by the end of 2026.
The bursary is open to current members of the AJE, so if you are not sure if your institution is a member, please email our treasurer Fiona McKay at fiona.mckay@strath.ac.uk.
Over the past two months, we have been reaching out to members for payment of the annual institutional membership fee of £200 pa (Sep 2024 to Sep 2025).
This covers all members of staff teaching Journalism and related subjects, including PhD students. We also offer individual memberships of £50.
The grant scheme is open now and the deadline for application is November 29, 2024. Successful applicants will be informed by the end of January 2025.
More information about the grant is available here and the application can be downloaded here. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the AJE committee on assjrned@gmail.com.
