New AJE Chair Margaret Hughes has released a welcome message to mark her start in the role.
Margaret, Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Journalism and Journalism (Sport) degrees at University of West Scotland’s School of Media, Culture and Society, was named Chair at the Association’s AGM on Friday June 24, taking over from Professor Chris Frost.
Margaret said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been elected Chair and to represent the members of the Association for Journalism Education.
“Journalism education is one of the most dynamic disciplines within the academy and journalism educators are charged with the responsibility of enabling our students to meet the exacting demands of a news media that is in a state of change and flux.
“I have developed and led journalism programmes for more than 15 years and know the opportunities and challenges that colleagues across the sector face and will do my best to ensure that the AJE continues to promote their interests and provide opportunities to support their professional development.”
And she thanked Prof Frost for his contribution to the AJE, she added: “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Prof Chris Frost not only for very successfully leading the AJE over many years but also for the immense contribution he has made to journalism education in the UK.”
